DurhamLearn are currently enrolling for their Essential Digital Skills courses held in Durham, Bishop Auckland and Consett which begin this April. Essential Digital Skills qualifications will equip you with the skills you need to make the most of your laptop, tablet, and other digital devices and ideal for those seeking to develop digital skills to function more effectively in everyday life.

To be eligible for funding, learners need to be UK nationals or have been a resident in the UK/EE for the previous three years. Some learners from outside the UK/EE may qualify for funding, please enquire on application.

Digital courses

Red light named beginner.Beginner – DurhamLearn offer 3 levels, with a variety of activities to help you build your skills at your own pace: Learn all the basics such as using a laptop or smartphone, understanding technical language, or staying safe in the digital world. No previous skills or experience are needed.

Amber light, named entry level.Entry level – Using different software and devices to find, enter, edit and store information online; taking and using digital images and videos, solving simple technical issues, and how to seek advice safely. Some learners may benefit from having the following basic skills before enrolling on this course:

    • Turning on a device (including using passwords).
    • Using basic controls on a device (like a mouse, keyboard or touchscreen).
    • Connecting to the internet (including Wi-Fi) safely and securely.
    • Opening and accessing an application.

Green light, named level one.Level 1 -Using various applications like Word, PowerPoint and Excel; capturing and editing digital images; using graphs and charts to produce digital data, working with financial and statistical information, how to access support to solve common technical problems and much more! Some learners may benefit from having the following skills before enrolling on this course:

    • Awareness of common software applications and social media platforms.
    • Know how to send a text, email or conduct a voice call.
    • An awareness of protecting data and maintaining privacy.
    • Be able to complete simple online transactions.
