Telephone landlines are changing. The UK’s phone network is moving to digital so if you use an analogue telephone landline, for whatever reason, this affects you. As part of this process BT is switching to Digital Voice. The old analogue telephone network will shut down in January 2027. This upgrade to digital will keep landlines working reliably in future.
BT’s Connected Together initiative offers tools, guidance and reassurance to help you through the change. The switch won’t cost you anything. Your phone number stays the same. Most handsets already work with Digital Voice. You’ll also get free features like Voicemail, Call Protect to help block scam calls and 3 Way Calling.
If you need help, BT offers free engineer visits. Backup power is available for those who need it, meaning you can still make and receive calls during outages. If you don’t have broadband, BT will still provide a landline service with no new equipment needed. Some people rely on landlines for safety, independence or daily contact. If that’s you, or someone you know, it’s important to prepare early.
BT has created a Conversation Starter Pack. It’s a simple guide to help you talk to someone about the switch. A short chat can make a big difference.
You can download the pack from BT’s Connected Together website. If you or someone you know needs extra support, contact your landline provider. BT customers can register for help online or by calling 0330 1234 150.
