1. Check if you’re eligible for a social tariff
Social tariffs can provide fast broadband at a much cheaper rate than regular packages – plus prices won’t go up mid-contract! You’ll also benefit from no exit fees if you leave before the end of your contract. View the list of available tariffs on our Free access and offers page and see if you could save.
2. Use the Money Saving Expert unbundled tool
If you’re looking for a broadband deal that includes phone and/or TV then Money Saving Expert’s unbundled search tool could be for you. It allows you to tailor a package to your needs with various options including speed and length of contract.
3. Don’t forget altnets
Lots of areas have much more than one internet service provider and you might be familiar with the well-known bigger suppliers, but what about smaller alternative providers (altnets)? They aren’t always listed on comparison sites and checkers which means you could be missing out on the perfect deal for you. For information on altnets in County Durham see our What’s available now? Page.
4. Haggle, haggle, haggle
While new customer deals are often unbeatable, if you want to stay with your current provider, haggling might be the way forward. So how is it done? Timing is everything and towards the end of your contract is the best time to negotiate, it’s also good to know what other deals are out there to benchmark against and don’t forget any issues you’ve had with the service to use as a bargaining tool too. Check out Money Saving Experts broadband haggling tips for more ways to get the price you want.
5. Pay for what you need
Lots of variables effect the price of your broadband, from length of contract to speed, and any add-ons such as devices or TV packages. Make sure that your package reflects your current needs and only pay for what you actually need. You’ll often find it’s less than what you think.
